Sports Therapy

What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is a Complementary Therapy discipline that is solely concerned with injury prevention, and/or where a person has already been injured, the rehabilitation of them back to optimum levels of fitness, regardless of age and ability.

It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, or competition and where appropriate your work.

What's the difference between Sports Therapy and Sports Massage?

Sports Therapy is a broader concept and focuses more on rehabilitation in a sports setting, utilising specific and tailored exercise training programmes to get you back to full fitness.  Sports Therapy practitioners may use massage as one of their 'tools' or 'methods', however, they also use a range of exercise rehabilitation based practices (much like Physiotherapy) to achieve results.

What do I need then a Sports Massage, or some Sports Therapy?

Depending on your preference, you can choose either.  If you would prefer a massage to help with your pain first, then feel free to book a Sports Massage intially. If one our Sports Massage practitioners feel you would benefit from a some wider Sports Therapy to help you after your initial appointment, then we can refer you onto our Sports Therapist. Althernatively, if you start with a Sports Therapy consultation your therapist may decide to include some massage as part of your rehabilitation programme.

If I decide to have Sports Therapy, how many sessions will I need?

This depends on a number of of factors, such as your age, general level of fitness, and how disciplined you are outside of the treatment room in doing your exercises in the gym / at home. We will not sell you sessions you don't require, and we are more than happy to work on a pay-as-you go basis.  Alternatively, if you would like to buy a number of sessions in advance (then after your initial consultation) please speak to your therapist to get an idea of how many they think you may need. We can then put a package together for you.
