Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage
WHAT IS MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (MLD) AND HOW CAN IT HELP ME?
Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage therapy designed to help reduce tissue congestion and swelling. It is especially useful for lymphoedema and can form part of the care package on the NHS.
For clients not suffering from lymphoedema, it can be a suportive therapy for generalised swelling caused by poor lymph drainage.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Unlike traditional massage therapies, which can stimulate blood flow and therefore cause more lymph to be produced, manual lymphpatic drainage provides gentle stimulation to the lymph vessels under the skin encouraging them to work harder. The aim is that this stimulation helps the lymph to find new pathways to drain away from the swollen area.
CAN I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT IF I AM SICK?
Possibly, if you have cancer or any other problem; such as renial issues, or hyper tension, please speak to your GP, or consultant first. If they agree we can proceed, however, we may need written confirmation in advance. If you are unsure whether you need to speak to your doctor, please call Gemma on 07779 429725, or email enquiries@gbmassage.co.uk .
